Home Smart are accredited New Zealand Solar Commercial installers. Solar Commercial are EECA approved and have been set up by New Zealand to reduce hot water costing using solar energy in commercial and domestic areas. These modular units are designed using the latest technological knowledge available and can be fitted to a large variety of existing water systems and pressures.

Domestic
Solar Commercial solar water systems collect energy from the sun and converts it into hot water. Domestic hot water is the second highest energy cost in households. Solar water heating can now dramatically reduce domestic costs by up to 75%.
There are various solar modules available. Home Smart advise according to individual requirements. During the summer months 80-100% of water heating can be produced by the sun. Please enquire for further information.
Commercial
Solar commercial is ideal for commercial business, in particular dairy farming. There are more than 16,000 dairy farms in New Zealand. These farms use huge amounts of energy to heat water and back-wash equipment for cleaning. Approximately 40%+ of the energy used in dairy sheds is due to water heating. Average hot water consumption in a dairy shed is between 300L and 900L litres of 85 degree hot water every day.
There is a huge savings potential among dairy farmers using an effective solar water heating solution from Solar Commercial. Extra storage tanks and collectors can be installed in order to supply more hot water as needed. Please enquire for further information.
How the solar heating system works:
- A black coating (UV absorber) on the inner cover of the evacuated tubes ensures high solar energy absorption and low heat radiance losses converting solar energy into heat energy which is transferred to the heat pipe by an aluminium fin.
- Heat is then transferred from the heat pipe to heat cold water in a storage tank.
- As hot water is drawn off, it is replaced with cold water which comes in from the opposite end of the tank under pressure.
- Water pressure for the whole system and the hot water cylinder can be pumped either from a cold water supply or from a header tank.
